In a unique golfing spectacle at The American Express tournament, Adam Schenk’s approach shot on the par-5 16th hole took an unexpected turn. The ball veered off-course towards a group of small hills, prompting concerns of a disastrous bounce.

Brad Harmeyer, comfortably seated 260 yards away, felt a gentle impact on his chest and heard a splash. To his surprise, he discovered a golf ball floating in his vodka cranberry cocktail. Fortunately, Harmeyer remained unharmed, and with only minimal spillage, he raised his glass, took a sip, and greeted the apologetic Schenk.

Schenk, expressing remorse, signed the ball and presented it to Harmeyer, who insisted there was no need for an apology. Recognizing the free relief granted for the shot, Harmeyer predicted Schenk’s favorable position, proven true as the world No. 48 chipped onto the green and secured a birdie from 10 feet.

Despite this amusing incident, Schenk’s progress took a hit with a double bogey at the following hole, finishing the first round tied-98th with a two-under 70. In pursuit of his first PGA Tour win, the 31-year-old lagged eight shots behind the leading pair—Zach Johnson and Alex Noren.
